This session will hear from members of the UK Crisis Management Team (CMT) – Kiara King and Richard Wiltshire.
The CMT coordinates responses to records at risk cases in the business archives sector. They will share some recent case studies of collections saved, highlight resources available and share tips for working in partnership to secure collections.
Richard is a Trustee of the Business Archives Council and Archives Manager at Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives. Richard was previously Senior Archivist for Business Archives at The London Archives. He is founding member of the Crisis Management Team - cases including the Debenhams and Thomas Cook archives. Richard has also led cataloguing projects including Earls Court and Olympia, Standard Chartered Bank and Whitechapel Bell Foundry. He was awarded MBE for services to heritage in 2025.

Kiara King is the Director and Archivist for the Ballast Trust a charity that provides a rescue, sorting and cataloguing service for business archives. She has worked in both the records management and archive sectors for over 20 years.
Kiara is also the Business Archives Council of Scotland’s Convenor and previously worked on the development and implementation of a National Strategy for Business Archives in Scotland (2010-2016). Her role at the Ballast Trust involves advocating for business archive collections, particularly technical records within them.
